A 19-year-old young man appears in court accused of murdering a Cuban in Miami.

The Cuban was shot without provocation just meters from where he lived.

This Thursday, five months after the Cuban Eduardo Sánchez was shot in the parking lot of an apartment community located in Overtown, in northeast Miami, his killer appeared in court.

The accused of shooting him without any provocation was arrested on Wednesday and according to the police, he confessed to committing the homicide. The individual has been identified as Alkeharey James Albert, only 19 years old.

The police located the suspect thanks to witness testimony and surveillance footage.

Jennifer Sánchez, the victim's daughter, has expressed satisfaction that her father's killer has been captured.

"Last night I received a call from the police telling me they had made an arrest, and I started crying tears of joy because I couldn't believe it. I have been praying a lot and I am happy that after all these months we have a suspect in custody," said Sánchez in statements to the local press.

The young woman -who keeps her father's ashes at home- remembers him as someone very funny, with a great sense of humor and generous.

"My dad liked to drink. He had his drink and his music. I talked to him a lot, he was very funny, very generous, he would do anything to help others," says the victim's daughter.

The crime

On April 20, neighbors in the area heard four or five gunshots.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police found Eduardo Sánchez shot inside his car in the parking lot of an apartment community located on the 365 block of northwest 8th Street, in Overtown, just meters from where he lived.

Despite being transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, the Cuban died.

For the moment, the authorities are continuing their investigation and have only told the family that "it was a random act that went wrong," however, the capture brings a bit of peace to the family.

The young man detained now faces a charge of second-degree homicide. The accused will remain in custody at the TGK jail in the county without the right to bail pending the start of his trial, and tomorrow, Friday, he will have to appear before another judge.
