@jekaqueenn, a Venezuelan who lived in the United States, shared on TikTok why she decided to pack her bags and leave the "American dream" behind.
The first reason he mentioned was the health system, which he described as "exaggeratedly expensive." "If you catch a cold and go to the doctor, you could end up paying more than 1,000 dollars," he said. Furthermore, he mentioned that although he had "premium" health insurance, he still paid a lot for consultations and medications. "Everything they prescribe is just paracetamol," he joked.
Then he touched on the issue of safety in schools, highlighting his concern about the free sale of weapons. "This is not the country where I want to raise my children," he explained, adding that he fears for his daughter's safety in the future due to the possibility of school shootings.
Regarding American work culture, @jekaqueenn was blunt: "In the United States, you only work, you work and you don't have a life of your own." She complained about the few holidays and how stress can ruin health, adding that it wasn't even worth going to the doctor, given how expensive it is.
Finally, she commented that she had no personal issues with Americans, but "they're not the kind of people I like." According to her, Americans are cold and anti-immigrant, which made her feel out of place. "I could only socialize with other Latinos," she confessed.
After his video, many users shared their own experiences living in the United States and Europe, comparing healthcare systems and lifestyles. "I'm watching this video with a health insurance plan that costs 35 dollars, hahaha, people just complain," said one user; while another commented: "If you didn't like it, go to Europe, life is more enjoyable there."
Some supported his decision to move: "Gentlemen, everyone thinks as they please. Personally, I would give the U.S. to anyone," expressed a user who also highlighted the importance of quality of life. But there were also responses with a more critical tone, like one person who said, "You also forgot to mention that they didn't give you papers," to which @jekaqueenn responded humorously, "I didn't need them, I have papers that are worth more than the Americans'."
The video continues to generate debate among those who relate to his experience and those who defend life in the U.S. What do you think? Would you stay or follow his example?
