The President of the United States, Joe Biden, approved an emergency declaration for the state of Florida on Monday, in response to the imminent arrival of the powerful hurricane Milton.

"We have approved a state of emergency declaration for the State of Florida and ordered federal assistance to support the response efforts that may be needed due to the emergency conditions caused by Hurricane Milton," Biden stated in a statement published on social media X.

This measure will allow federal assistance to be mobilized to complement the efforts of state and local response to the impact of the weather phenomenon.

Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall again in western Florida, and federal authorities are already working quickly to deploy personnel and emergency resources in the region.

In fact, Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency on Sunday in 35 counties, including Miami-Dade.

"As Tropical Storm Milton continues to strengthen in the Gulf, I have issued Executive Order 24-214 ahead of its possible landfall on the west coast of Florida this week. This Executive Order declares a state of emergency in 35 counties in Florida," the politician announced on his X account.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that the cyclone reached category 5, with maximum sustained winds of 250 km/h (160 mph) and stronger gusts.

The monitoring center reported on the social network X that, according to data from the hurricane-hunting aircraft of the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron (@53rdWRS), the recent intensification of Hurricane Milton has been confirmed by precise measurements.

Currently, Milton is located 190 kilometers west-northwest of Celestún and 240 kilometers west of Progreso, both in the Mexican state of Yucatán, and 1,195 kilometers west-southwest of Tampa, towards which it is headed, according to the forecasted trajectory.
