The Cuban Electric Union (UNE) predicted another day of massive blackouts for this Monday, extending the silent agony that the population endures, and day by day distancing the precarious and diminishing trust of Cubans in the regime's leaders.
The fuel shortage and the Russian roulette of breakdowns in thermal power plants are resulting in an infernal cycle of supply cuts across the island, with provinces being left completely in the dark due to the inability to "rotate" the blackouts by circuits.
"Yesterday, the service was affected due to a deficit in generation capacity 24 hours a day, and this has continued throughout the early morning today," the state-owned company reported on its social media this Monday.
There is no news in their information, as this is the usual opening of their daily reports for weeks. According to data from the company itself, this Sunday "the maximum impact due to generation capacity deficit during peak hours was 1,349 MW at 6:10 PM."
As recognized by the UNE, the "impact" was greater than planned the day before, supposedly due to the "failure to bring Unit 5 of the Nuevitas CTE online in time."
"Units 5 and 8 of Mariel and unit 2 of the CTE Felton are out of service. Unit 2 of the CTE Santa Cruz and unit 5 of the CTE Renté are under maintenance," added the company led by Alfredo López Valdés.
Out of service due to lack of fuel are 43 distributed generation plants. The floating power plant (barge) in Santiago de Cuba is in the same situation. In total, this represents a deficit of about 344 MW in the collapsed national electroenergetic system (NES).
"With this forecast, a capacity of 2,220 MW is estimated for peak hour and a maximum demand of 3,300 MW, resulting in a deficit of 1,080 MW. Therefore, if the expected conditions persist, a shortfall of 1,150 MW is forecasted during this period," concluded the UNE.
The situation, which has fluctuated for years in the country, increasingly sours the lives of Cubans. In addition to the economic crisis, shortages, inflation, the collapse of public services, and hunger, the population suffers from prolonged and frequent blackouts with a mix of resignation and indignation, as reflected in the comments left on UNE's social media.
"Oh God, not a single day of truce! Hand over the country: it is collapsing!" commented a user. "How much longer will we have patience? When madness reigns in full, a tsunami will come to the streets," asked another, making a prediction that many fear, including the authorities of the Cuban regime.
"We don't want more information about the generation deficit, information that many don't even understand. The people of Cuba are fed up with reports that justify the 'alumbrones'; what we want now is a solution," exclaimed another internet user.
"It seems that the new goal is not to drop below 1,000 MW of deficit!"; "With no improvements or solutions, it's going from bad to worse"; "Give up the power. The Cuban people do not deserve this," said other users tired of a situation that seems endless.
