Severe blackouts plunge several provinces of Cuba into darkness.

The worsening of the energy crisis became evident in Pinar del Río, Matanzas, and Camagüey, according to reports on social media.

The prolonged and constant blackouts experienced during the day on Thursday left several provinces of Cuba completely in the dark.

Reports on social media alerted about the critical situation of the national electric power system (SEN), denouncing that large areas of the national territory were left without electricity supply.

The worsening of the energy crisis became evident in Pinar del Río, where the Electric Company reported that the province was fully affected by a generation capacity deficit of 100 megawatts (MW), which made it impossible to rotate the circuits.

In Matanzas, the provincial Electric Company issued a similar notice, apologizing for the inconveniences to the population and promising that "as soon as the system conditions allow, the circuits that have been affected the longest will be gradually restored."

"Today there were 18 hours of blackout, almost 19 in Camagüey. From 6 in the morning until 12:39 at night," denounced the independent journalist José Luis Tan Estrada on his social media.

This Thursday, before peak hour (at 2:00 p.m.), the electricity deficit in Cuba exceeded 1,270 MW, a figure that already surpassed the 1,264 MW forecast for the night, which announced the tough day of blackouts looming over the Cubans.

The official journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso warned on Facebook that in several provinces of Cuba all possible circuits were down.

Alonso shared screenshots from several Telegram channels of various provincial branches of the Electric Union as evidence of the extreme situation that Cubans were facing.

In several territories, by 2:00 p.m. circuits had already gone out outside the scheduled time, further intensifying the problems with the electricity supply.

The report from the Electric Union (UNE) this Friday confirmed the concerns expressed by users on social media.

"Yesterday, the service was affected due to a deficit in generation capacity for 24 hours a day, and it has continued throughout the early morning today," stated the state company, acknowledging that "the maximum impact due to the generation capacity deficit was 1,580 MW at 6:30 PM."

"Superior to what was planned due to unavailability of fuel in the Mariel truck and Melones and entry after the peak of unit 3 of the CTE Cienfuegos," justified the company led by Alfredo López Valdés.
