A Cuban resident in Florida recounted on her social media how the distressing evacuation of her and her family has been due to Hurricane Milton.
Yeli Sosa, a resident of Spring Hill in Hernando County, spent the last few days at home debating whether to leave or stay, until the news of the magnitude of the phenomenon finally led her to decide to leave.
"Whatever God wants, and hopefully when I return home everything will be fine and everything will be standing because, honestly, it's worrisome," he stated in a video on his TikTok account.
Yeli, mother of two children, boarded up all the windows of her house and inside her car, which she left in the garage, she stored important documents, computers, and appliances.
"If you are in an evacuation zone, please take care, may God bless you, and try to get to safety," said the young woman, who just hours before her departure was not sure where she would go with her husband, her two children, and their dog.
The young woman described how stressful these last few days have been, without sleep and with her nerves on edge.
Although her house is not in a flood zone, she finally decided to go far away while her friends stayed at her house.
Not even the long lines of cars on the highways out of Florida that slow down traffic convinced her to stay.
Florida is facing mass evacuations ahead of the imminent arrival of Milton.
Some roads have heavy traffic. Many people waited until the last day to make the decision to head to a safe area, and now they are desperate and vulnerable as the storm approaches.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned in its latest bulletin that Milton, now with sustained winds of 200 km/h, has decreased to category 3, although it remains a powerful hurricane.
The NHC reported that tropical storm-force winds and intense rainfall are underway, and that multiple tornado warnings are in effect across the Florida peninsula.
"If a tornado warning is issued for your area, be prepared to take shelter quickly, preferably away from windows and in an interior room not prone to flooding," the NHC warned.
