Hurricane Milton is causing spectacular waves along the Malecón in Havana, where the impact of the phenomenon is already being felt and is expected to make landfall in the United States tonight.
The strong swells associated with the phenomenon have caused the first floods on the popular avenue, where authorities have prohibited vehicle circulation.
In the Facebook group "Maravilloso Malecón," several users shared photos and videos of the enormous waves that crash over the wall and reach the nearby streets.
"This is how our Havana seawall looks around 10:00 am, and it is expected to worsen during high tide around 3:00 pm. The areas from G Street to Paseo and its side streets between 1st and A Street," noted user Daryl R. Álvarez.
This Wednesday morning, some flooding was reported in low areas of El Vedado due to sea incursions.
The sea entry is not so much due to an excess of rainfall -since the showers in the capital have been intermittent- but rather to the strong waves that the Meteorological Institute predicted in the western provinces throughout the day.
In addition to Havana, Hurricane Milton has generated adverse conditions in Pinar del Río, Artemisa, Mayabeque, and the Isle of Youth in recent hours.
The hurricane is primarily bringing gusts of wind, strong swells, and intermittent showers associated with the feeder bands.
