The Major League player Yoan Moncada made the decision not to join the Cuban national team for the Premier 12 tournament to focus on his preparations in hopes of securing a new contract in Major League Baseball.

According to journalist Francys Romero on the social media platform Facebook, the 29-year-old player will be a free agent five days after the conclusion of the World Series and will focus on preparing during the winter.

The third baseman, who represented the island in the last World Baseball Classic, will conclude his time with the Chicago White Sox after several seasons filled with injuries and fluctuations in his performance.

Romero also stated that the player from Cienfuegos could participate in the winter league in Venezuela as part of his training while evaluating his options for the next season.

This announcement adds to the decisions of other players included in the preliminary selection who chose to prioritize their professional future.

The Cuba team will be announced this Thursday at a press conference scheduled at the Latinoamericano Stadium in Havana.
