The marine rescue unit of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Florida rescued a child this Thursday who survived Hurricane Milton by floating on boards in a completely flooded neighborhood.
Sheriff Chad Chronister and the maritime unit of the HCSO team managed to reach the 14-year-old boy in a boat.
The minor was found submerged in floodwaters and floating on boards and debris after the passage of Hurricane Milton.
The waters in the area where the minor was found covered the first floor of the houses, and the rescuers were searching the area in small boats.
The powerful storm made landfall in Siesta Key, south of Sarasota, Tampa, and St. Petersburg, with a category 3 on the Saffir-Simpson scale.
Although it is now a category 1 and moving away from the east coast of Florida, it continues to cause havoc in the region.
Authorities have reported severe flooding and significant damage in several cities, with more than three million homes without electricity.
Although some hurricane and tropical storm warnings have been issued on the west coast of Florida, alerts persist in other areas, including warnings for storm surge along the coast.
Meteorologists warn that rain and wind conditions will continue in the central and eastern regions of the state, with additional precipitation of 2 to 4 inches expected, which could cause flash floods.
Hurricane Milton is expected to gradually weaken as it moves north of the Bahamas, although it could turn into a powerful extratropical low later tonight. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance to those affected by the natural disaster.
