They are called smashed potatoes or "patatas al puñetazo," and they are crushed with the base of a glass, the back of a spoon, or any flat tool, but they are nothing more than crushed potatoes that Cubans can make in the same way or with a tostonera.

This recipe has gone viral in Spain as an appetizer to serve before the main meal, and it has the advantage that, unlike our green plantain tostones, it is made in the oven instead of fried in oil, achieving the same appearance while also being equally crunchy. Therefore, it meets the requirements of modern cooking: it is healthy, inexpensive, and very easy to make.

Here it is for you with details:

Ideally, the potatoes should be small so they are easier to mash, but if not, cut them before boiling so that the "paplátano" is not too big.

In a pot, small potatoes or halved potatoes are boiled in salted water for 30 minutes. It is not necessary to peel them.

Once you stab the knife into the center and feel that it goes in easily and the potato is cooked, soft but not falling apart when squeezed, you can take them out and let them drain and cool down a bit.

When they are ready, place them on a baking paper on a tray and flatten them. The best option is to use a glass cup, mug, or bowl, as this material won’t stick to the potato. If you prefer, you can use a flat kitchen utensil, or even a tostonera. Remember that with the skin, they stay even crunchier!

It's time to drizzle them with olive oil and add salt, pepper, parsley, oregano, or whatever you want to season them with. If you prefer, just add salt and oil.

Next, bake at 220 degrees for 25-30 minutes with heat from above and below. You do not need to flip them.

With 2 kilograms of small to medium potatoes, 6 people can eat well.

!!!!And that's it!!! You can also make a separate sauce, for which you will find ideas in the same TikTok videos, or you can simply serve them like green plantain tostones.
