A 25-year-old Cuban woman was murdered on the afternoon of last Saturday in the locality of Kitty, Guyana, by her partner, in an event that is being investigated by the police.

The incident occurred in a house on Station Street, in the mentioned locality. The victim was identified as Yuni Zamora Castro, 25 years old. A search on Facebook revealed that the young woman is originally from the province of Las Tunas.

Her husband and alleged murderer was identified only as "El Tío," 60 years old, and there are discrepancies regarding his nationality, as some media outlets say he is Venezuelan while others claim he is Cuban.

Regarding the case, it is known so far that the authorities received a call around 5:30 p.m. alerting them about a violent disturbance at the residence. Upon arriving at the scene, they found Zamora Castro lying on the ground, with signs of having been attacked, while her husband was found hanged, in what appeared to be a suicide.

The Guyanese media outlet Stabroek News revealed that the police stated that the initial investigations showed that the couple lived together in a two-story concrete house, which they shared with other people. Friends and neighbors said that the couple had a tumultuous relationship.

According to a person close to the victim, identified as Anislaidy Díaz Leblanch, the victim had recently mentioned her intention not to continue her relationship with El Tío, due to his possessive behavior, the local media News Room reported.

The same source, who was a witness to the events and managed to flee after witnessing the aggression, said that on Saturday, after returning home from work together, the couple was sitting on the terrace when El Tío approached Castro and handed him 1,000 dollars to settle a small debt. Castro informed him that he did not have change but would pay him later.

The situation escalated quickly to the point that the man ended up taking the life of the 25-year-old woman.

The Facebook account of the Israel Santos primary school in Las Tunas shared a post recalling the passing of Zamora Castro, whom they said was a teacher at that educational institution.

"Today we are filled with deep sadness as we say goodbye to a great person, Yuni, who was a teacher at our Seminternado Israel Santos. Her dedication, affection, and commitment to the education of several generations leave an indelible mark on all of us," they wrote from the profile.

They added that “his legacy will live on in each of his students, in every lesson he shared, and in every smile he gave us. It is a difficult time for our educational community, but we come together in the pain and the memories he has left us.”
