An 18-year-old young woman identified as Liz Yohana Jiménez Morales was killed in her home in Mayajigua, a municipality in Yaguajay, during the night of Sunday, October 6, to the early hours of Monday, October 7, by her teenage boyfriend.

The Alas Tensas Gender Observatory and the YoSíTeCreo platform in Cuba confirmed that a minor has been identified as the person responsible for the femicide.

Both independent organizations called for addressing dating violence, especially among teenagers, and reminded that this is not the first case in which young people are involved in acts of feminicide.

The organizations OGAT and YSTCC, dedicated to the observation and recording of cases of gender violence, have confirmed this fact through community sources and a total of 39 femicides in Cuba up to October 9, 2024.

The subregistration carried out by OGAT and YSTCC up to this Wednesday indicates that there have also been five attempted femicides and six cases that need access to police investigation: that of an elderly woman (Esperanza, Villa Clara), Irma (Havana), Teresa Moliner Bosa (Havana), Tania Reyes (Santiago de Cuba), Samantha (Sami), Heredia Odrens (Santiago de Cuba), and Laura Castillo Zulueta (Havana).

Two murders of men for gender reasons have also occurred, and organizations are investigating one case in Las Tunas, two in Matanzas, one in Camagüey, one in Guantánamo, and one in Santiago de Cuba.
