In the midst of the serious crisis on the island, a polytechnic in Santiago de Cuba suspended its teaching activities due to a lack of food, according to a video published by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta through his social networks.
In the footage, the director of the center is heard informing the students that classes were suspended until Wednesday due to the low availability of food.
The population questions the capacity of the authorities to ensure the minimum conditions for teaching in the island's school institutions, after it was revealed this week that the situation is similar in other centers.
Mayeta also reported on Monday the situation in the children's circles in the city, where children are allegedly receiving minimal portions of food, such as trays with only white rice.
The case is not isolated. Last week, the Academic Freedom Observatory warned about the crisis at the "Marta Abreu" Central University of Las Villas (UCLV), where students are facing a lack of electricity and drinking water.
Due to the shortage of fuel for water transportation, students protested, but they were threatened by the authorities and State Security, the outlet reports.
Academic and human rights organizations have called on the rector of UCLV, Luis A. Barranco Olivera, to take responsibility and protect students from any retaliation.
In addition, they demand respect for university autonomy and denounce the intimidation that students suffer from the political police.
