Cuban video creator Mayel Bosque (@mayelbosque) couldn't contain his tears upon hearing the audio of an interview in which El Taiger spoke about his mother - which has gone viral these days on social media - following the artist's passing.
In the emotional video shared on TikTok, Mayel is seen visibly moved, while in the background, El Taiger can be heard saying: "I promised my mom to be free... it’s enough to do in this world of weak men what you said you were going to do." The words of the reggaeton artist, who never recovered from the blow of losing his mother, have deeply touched his followers.
In the video description, Mayel wrote: "It hurts to know that we will listen to your songs like those of El Dany and it will hurt us," comparing the loss of El Taiger to that of El Dany, who was also very beloved in the Cuban community.
"20 years listening to you, champion, and you left us because you were killed. Chill, enjoy your elders now, you are a legend, that's how you left us being the voice of your people," was written about the video, bidding farewell to the reggaeton artist who marked a generation of Cubans both on the island and in exile.
The followers of El Taiger, one of the most influential figures in the Cuban urban genre, have expressed their sadness and pain in the comments: “The best in the world is the lock of Cuba, he will always be in our hearts, rest in peace”; “Very sad, it really hurt a lot, I can't stop thinking about him, no one has the right to take someone's life”; “That's beautiful brother, may God always bless him.”
El Taiger, whose real name was José Manuel Carbajal Zaldívar, passed away in Miami after receiving a gunshot wound to the head on October 3. He was hospitalized for a week until his death was confirmed on October 10 at Jackson Memorial Hospital. His passing has left his fans, colleagues, friends, and the Cuban community, both on the island and abroad, devastated.
The funeral of El Taiger will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the San Lázaro Catholic Church in Hialeah, Miami, starting at 1:30 p.m. According to his cousin Jorge Junior, leader of the group Los 4, the ceremony will be open to the public.
