The Ministry of Transport of Cuba (Mitrans) reported on Tuesday that passenger transportation will undergo temporary changes due to the impacts of Hurricane Oscar in the eastern part of the country.
For the moment, all local and interprovincial train departures from Ciego de Ávila to Guantánamo have been canceled, and information will be provided in due time about the restoration of these services, the entity's note on Facebook details.
It adds that only the departure of Train 14 Guantánamo-Havana is maintained for this October 22, at 10:05 AM, after having been postponed.
As for Ómnibus Nacionales, all departures to and from Baracoa and Maisí remain suspended, both those leaving from Havana and from other provinces.
Intermodal services between Guantánamo and Baracoa are also suspended.
The rest of the flights operate at their usual times and frequencies, although they may experience delays due to fuel availability in some provinces, the entity's publication on Facebook emphasizes.
The Ministry has ensured that passengers who do not wish to travel will receive a refund of 100% of the ticket value. Those who want to reschedule their trip must contact the Commercial Offices of the Viajero Company.
For its part, maritime navigation also experienced alterations. The traffic between the ports of Batabanó and Nueva Gerona remains suspended until hydrometeorological conditions allow it, said MITRANS. Passengers with reserved tickets must contact Empresa Viajero to reschedule their trips.
Hurricane Oscar has caused significant damage to the country's roads, including landslides on the La Farola road, which connects the municipalities of Imías and Baracoa. Images show impacts on homes, crops, and buildings, with fallen trees and damage to infrastructure.
The La Farola road, regarded as a marvel of civil engineering, has been classified as dangerous due to its poor condition. The lack of maintenance has contributed to its deterioration, and the situation has become critical following the passage of the hurricane.
