Cuban father who decided to emigrate: "Those who have taken over Cuba are forcing us to leave."

"We must become aware that Cuba belongs to no one, and we have the right not to live far from it. I will have to leave because of the selfishness of a few and the cowardice of many."

Cuban lawyer Miguel Viera, who recently announced that he is leaving the country because he does not see a future for his daughter on the Island, described how painful the process of selling all his belongings has been.

Viera, widely known on the Internet for his criticisms of the government, revealed that he decided to emigrate because he feels he must, but that this does not bring him happiness.

"When someone comes to see the house, it's my wife who takes care of everything; she is the one in charge of selling my entire life. At that moment, I go to the garage and lock myself inside the car, waiting there in the dark for time to pass. I don’t have the courage to negotiate my life. To sell the things I have fought so hard for," he said on his Facebook wall.

The jurist stated that Cuba is united by roots that are difficult to sever, that the feeling of being Cuban runs deep, and that whenever he traveled in the past, he always returned.

"Those who have taken possession of Cuba are forcing us to leave. They impose their doctrine and policies without any rights. They compel us to be exiled, to miss the sun, to dream of the beaches from afar, to long for our childhood, to mourn for our families," he denounced.

"We all need to realize at once that this is not what we want! That Cuba belongs to no one and that we have the right not to live far from it! I will have to leave because of the selfishness of a few and the cowardice of many, and I include myself in that... I will go, but on that day, a little, no, quite a lot, I will die inside!" she emphasized.

Manuel Viera, known on his social media as "Manuel Viera Porelcambio," stated in September that the main reason for his departure is political disillusionment.

"I am not leaving Cuba due to economic problems; I am leaving because of political issues," he stated, adding that Cuban society is "broken" and "no one wants to fix it."

The lawyer then announced the sale of his house in the Playa municipality, a home he had invested 18 years in, built "stone by stone" and "where I watched my three children grow up, designed to live in and run a business."

He is also selling his car, an old Argentinian Dodge that he inherited from his father and that has been with him for over three decades. "I know every nut and bolt of my palmiche," he said.

Viera, who stated in 2021 that Cuba will never progress as long as those in power do not respect the plurality of political ideas with equal rights, emphasized that she will not return as long as there is an atmosphere of fear and political control over society.
