Thousands of Valencians are taking to the streets on foot to assist in towns affected by the floods

The government of Spain has abandoned the affected communities, where three days after the tragedy, the population is still without electricity, water, or food.

Thousands of residents in Valencia walk dozens of kilometers to deliver aid to the towns affected by the flooding caused by the DANA, which struck the province on Monday and resulted in over 200 fatalities.

Since early hours, the people of Valencia mobilized and decided to walk (cars are not allowed) to deliver food and water, as well as shovels, brooms, and other tools to help clean the areas still filled with water and mud.

"There is a saying in Valencian that goes 'only the people can save the people' (you understand, right?). This video is from some time ago, showing people crossing the footbridge over the Turia riverbed to deliver food or help clean up the disaster caused by the DANA," said the user Gente de España on Facebook.

The Spanish government has abandoned the affected towns, where four days after the tragedy, the residents are still without water, electricity, food, or medication.

Several internet users and media outlets have shared videos of the long lines of people heading towards the affected areas.

This Friday morning, authorities reported the death toll in the Comunidad Valenciana at 202, to which three additional fatalities in Castilla-La Mancha and Andalucía must be added.

The latest report on Thursday indicated 155 fatalities, but in recent hours, the number has risen by nearly 60 as debris has been cleared and houses destroyed by the rains and flooding have been removed.

Authorities have warned that the DANA (Isolated High-Level Depression) remains active and is still causing heavy rainfall in the Valencia Region and western Andalusia.
