Cuban priest Alberto Reyes, from the Diocese of Camagüey, expressed his concern about how the situation of poverty, repression, and social stagnation has led to the corruption of the souls of many people.

Reyes, a staunch critic of the dictatorship, shared a post on his Facebook wall in which he recalls that communism does not aim to create wealth but rather to take it away from those who have earned it through their efforts, and that its ideology views the individual as a piece that must be at its service.

Father Reyes states that despite this, there are those who try to achieve something of their own amid the harassment, others emigrate, and some try to survive as best they can, while still taking joy in the successes of others. However, he emphasizes that communism does not thrive on these cases; it feeds solely on resentment, disdain for those who succeed, and hatred for those who feel free and happy.

Next, CiberCuba shares the full text of the publication:

"I have been thinking... (XC) by Alberto Reyes Pías"

I have been considering the need to prevent the pollution of the soul.

We live in a state of waiting, waiting for the end of a chapter in our history that has resulted in disillusionment, misery, repression, and significant social stagnation.

However, the wait must bear fruit, so that the change to come finds us with the best heart possible. May the dawn of freedom catch us walking with the best of our awake selves in the midst of the night.

I'm sharing this following a recent anecdote. A teenager stopped by to greet a couple, who mentioned that the power was out in their neighborhood. The teenager's response was, "Well, I’m glad the power's out for you because it's out at my house too." The man replied, "Don't you think it would be better to say that we all hope to have power?" But the teenager didn’t bother to consider that perspective; she simply reiterated her delight that they had no electricity.

Communism feeds on resentment, which is why it strives to present the world as a struggle between oppressors and the oppressed, between the exploited and the exploiters.

Therefore, it does not seek to generate wealth but rather to take it away from those who have earned it through their efforts. And when it stimulates the economy, as is the case in China, it does not do so with the aim of facilitating unrestricted enjoyment of goods, because every communist ideology, regardless of its particular strand, views the individual as a cog that must serve it. This is why it stifles freedom and imposes precise limitations on the dreams, illusions, and legitimate aspirations of human beings.

The type of society created by communist ideology stifles creativity, preventing that creativity from leading to healthy private property. Communism robs citizens of their right to personal progress, making it impossible through its laws and controls for individuals to feel ownership of the fruits of their labor and intelligence. Consequently, individuals are deprived of the joy of possessing something and defending it as their own.

In light of this reality, some people refuse to give up, attempting time and again to achieve something of their own amid ongoing harassment. Others choose to channel their creativity and efforts into different places. Many feel discouraged and try to survive as best they can, but without losing the ability to celebrate the successes of others.

In none of these three cases does communism find its source; its wellspring lies in resentment, in the disdain for those who manage to succeed, and in the hatred for those who can feel free and happy. In reality, a happy person will never be a communist.

That's why there are wealthy people who advocate for communism; having possessions is not synonymous with happiness, and it's always easier to blame others for personal grievances.

And that’s why there are people who, despite swimming in misery, idolize Marxist ideology, as they have convinced themselves that the root of all evils is 'this unjust world' led by selfish hoarders who need to be stripped of everything.

"I do not deny the enormous social injustices we find here and there in this world, but when the approach to confronting them is rooted in contempt and resentment, it ultimately ends up exploiting the poor, multiplying their suffering endlessly and leaving them in misery, feeding their hopes with empty rhetoric and slogans of hate."
