Issue resolved at Block 4 of the Cienfuegos thermoelectric plant

The Electric Union did not specify what type of malfunction the mentioned unit experienced, its causes, or the repairs carried out. At the end of April, it had undergone extensive maintenance for 35 days.

Cuba's Electric Union (UNE) reported this Sunday that Block 4 of the 'Carlos Manuel de Céspedes' Thermal Power Plant in Cienfuegos has been synchronized following the repair of the fault that had kept it offline.

"Block 4 of the Cienfuegos Thermoelectric Plant has already ignited its boiler and will synchronize with the national electricity grid at midnight. We continue to fight," the state-owned company indicated on its social media.

The UNE's Informative Note for this Sunday included Block 4 of the CTE Cienfuegos among those out of service. It seems that the outage lasted only over the weekend, as the report from Friday, November 1, did not list this block among those reported as faulty.

The company led by Alfredo López Valdés did not specify the type of breakdown that the mentioned unit experienced, its causes, or the repairs undertaken.

As is the case in all branches of the UNE, the thermoelectric plants in the country are reported as malfunctioning or under maintenance without providing details, creating an uncontrolled spiral that confuses users with its shifting figures and lack of transparency.

This Sunday, the UNE reported a significant generation deficit, estimated to exceed 1,400 MW during the peak evening hours nationwide. The corresponding report indicated that 10 thermal power units were out of service, seven due to breakdowns (including Unit 4 of the Cienfuegos Thermoelectric Plant) and three for maintenance.

The total outages of the national electro-energy system (SEN) that occurred from Friday, October 18, to Sunday, October 20, caused a significant breakdown of Unit 3 at the Cienfuegos thermal power plant, which was reported as under maintenance in the update on Sunday.

Days before the total collapse of the National Electric System on the night of October 14, the thermoelectric plant in Cienfuegos created a complex situation in the country's electricity generation by disconnecting "as planned" at 10 PM that Monday.

At the end of April, the director of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, engineer José Osvaldo González, explained on National Television that Unit 4 of the thermoelectric plant would be out of service for maintenance for 35 days.

"At the beginning of the year, maintenance for Block 4 was scheduled to address issues with the boiler, particularly regarding the heat exchange surface, the superheater, and the reheater; however, due to the situation with the SEN, this intervention was postponed to the second quarter of the year," the executive stated.

Despite having undergone extensive maintenance for 35 days, Unit 4 of the Cienfuegos CTE has experienced breakdowns again, according to reports from UNE, which celebrated its synchronization with the national electricity grid this Sunday, following countless ups and downs that have become too numerous to count and have only increased public frustration.
