Alongside Florida, between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., the polling places in Georgia, Virginia, South Carolina, Vermont, all of Kentucky, all of Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, West Virginia, Alabama, Connecticut, Washington D.C., Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Tennessee will also be closing, CNN reported.

Historically, in U.S. presidential elections, Republicans tend to win in the state of Florida, while Democrats are victorious in Miami-Dade County.

As in every election cycle, millions of Americans have exercised their right to vote either early or by mail. By this Tuesday, more than 78 million votes have been received across 47 states and the District of Columbia.

The early voting centers in Miami-Dade closed this Sunday after an intense day in which over half of the voters had already cast their ballots.
