They managed to cover the huge hole on the Malecón in Havana before the arrival of Hurricane Rafael

The project, criticized for its delay, was completed between B and C streets in El Vedado.

Cuban workers managed to cover the huge hole in the Malecón of Havana before the arrival of Hurricane Rafael.

The renovation took place on a section of the avenue between Streets B and C in El Vedado, which typically floods during inclement weather.

Carlos Espinosa Betancourt, administrator of the Facebook group 'Maravilloso Malecón', shared photos and a video of the completed project.

"I can tell everyone that the repair work carried out in the last few hours has been successfully completed in my opinion, and the risk in that regard for our area has disappeared," he announced.

Espinosa thanked the workers and staff of the Ministry of Transportation for their dedication, just hours before the city was hit by Hurricane Rafael.

On Tuesday, he reported on the progress of the work on the platform, hoping that once completed, they will "withstand."

Other users on the digital network pointed out that now is not the best time to repair the Malecón, and that the repairs should have been done much earlier, not right before a cyclone.
