Hurricane Rafael destroyed several high-tension towers located on the Havana-Artemisa highway as it passed through western Cuba during the last hours of Wednesday.
The ARTV-Artemisa telecenter shared photos on Facebook that reveal the extent of the disaster.
This further complicates the restoration of electrical service in the country following the massive blackout that began on Wednesday at 2:48 PM, which the Electric Union attributed to the strong winds of the hurricane, even though it had not yet reached Cuba.
At this time, the central highway in Artemisa is blocked due to fallen trees.
"Fire command forces are working tirelessly to restore traffic," announced the local telecenter in another post.
For now, the authorities state that the western provinces will remain without electricity. As briefly stated by the Electric Company of Havana, they will have to wait for the assessment of the transmission lines before starting to create microsystems.
Hello, despite the fact that the day before, the government boasted that electrical workers from central and eastern provinces had traveled to Havana to assist in the recovery efforts following Hurricane Rafael.
Since the morning, the Electric Union announced that when hurricane winds reached 60 km/h, a voluntary disconnection of electrical circuits in areas affected by the winds would be implemented to prevent damage to infrastructure and protect human life.
