A serious accident occurred in Hialeah on Wednesday morning at the intersection of Krome Avenue and Okeechobee Road, resulting in one death and another person critically injured, according to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The collision, which involved two pickup trucks, was reported around 5:00 a.m. (local time).
According to initial investigations by the FHP, a Dodge pickup truck and a Ford collided at the mentioned intersection for reasons that are still under investigation.
As a result, the man driving the Dodge died at the scene of the accident, while the driver of the Ford was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Aerial images captured by local press showed vehicles with severe front-end damage, and the body of the deceased covered with a yellow tarp among the wreckage of the truck.
The accident prompted a significant emergency response in the area, which remained closed for several hours.
The accident caused significant traffic issues on Krome Avenue and the closure of the southbound lanes on Okeechobee Road for several hours.
Authorities advised drivers to take alternative routes, including the toll highway and US 27, to avoid the area of the collision.
At approximately 10:00 a.m., the FHP reported that the roads were reopened, although congestion in the area continued to impact traffic towards Hialeah.
