A human head was discovered on Tuesday at the shore of a beach in Key Biscayne, known as one of the most tranquil spots in Miami-Dade County.

The discovery occurred in a section of the beach behind the Key Colony II Ocean Sound condominium building, located at 251 Crandon Blvd, leaving residents and beachgoers astonished.

The Key Biscayne police covered the remains with a blue tarp and cordoned off part of the beach with yellow crime scene tape.

"Everyone is extremely surprised; it's very unusual to find a body part on the beach," commented Ivo Kusijamovic, a local resident, to Local 10.

A woman reported that she realized something unusual was happening when the police blocked her usual walking route.

"He pointed at me and said that I had to turn around immediately... it was quite disturbing," he said.

"Our neighborhood is very safe. We have our children here; our children play on these beaches, and it's just hard to believe," he added.

The homicide detectives from the Miami-Dade Police Department are now investigating the case.

The identity of the person has not been disclosed.

Last year, the discovery of a body floating in waters near Key Biscayne also surprised many. The corpse was found by a fisherman in the area who alerted the authorities. The body was floating near Crandon Park Marina at that time.
