Cuban authorities have apprehended Ridelkis Guilarte Castillo, known as "Jicarita," the alleged perpetrator of the brutal murder of Daynilis Lobaina Torrell, a 30-year-old mother, in the municipality of Maisí, Guantánamo.
The news was confirmed to CiberCuba by the victim's family, who are demanding justice and calling for the death penalty for the aggressor.
Daynilis was murdered last Sunday in her home, where she received 36 machete wounds, according to our source.
The femicide, who allegedly acted with premeditation and extreme violence, also severely injured the woman's uncle, who is currently hospitalized, while a cousin sustained less serious injuries.
According to statements from acquaintances, Guilarte intended to attack the two daughters of the woman, aged 14 and 9, as well as their mother, father, and grandmother.
The victim, mother of the two minors, was killed in an act described by neighbors and family members as "extreme savagery."
On social media, his cousin Daribel Lobaina stated that the attacker "acted as if he were facing an animal."
“Not even with death can he repay what he has done. It was something disastrous,” remarked Félix Ramos Torrell, a witness to the autopsy process.
The images of the crime, which circulated on social media, have been condemned by family members and loved ones for their insensitivity toward the pain of the victim's relatives.
Guilarte Castillo was known in the community for his violent behavior and a history of illegal activities, such as participation in underground gambling and the slaughter of large livestock. Neighbors described him as a troublesome person with low moral standards and episodes of explosive behavior.
The murder of Daynilis takes place against a backdrop of increasing gender violence in Cuba, where the rates of femicides have alarmingly risen in 2024.
To date, the Gender Observatory Alas Tensas and the platform YoSíTeCreo in Cuba have recorded 46 femicides, although the actual number may be higher due to a lack of official data and underreporting.
