José "Látigo" Gómez, former catcher for the Azucareros and a notable athlete from Villa Clara, passed away this Thursday. His death follows that of his daughter, Hanny Gómez, a well-known radio host in the province, who said goodbye the day before.

The station MHW La Reina Radial del Centro reported this Thursday the passing of José Gómez Pinto, known as "Látigo" Gómez, who was a catcher for the Azucareros team and a legend of sports in Sagüero and Villa Clara.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, the Sagüero sports community, and all those who admire and respect him," stated the radio station on its Facebook profile.

Additionally, it was emphasized that the renowned player was the father of Hanny Gómez Méndez, one of the most respected and beloved voices in the state-run radio of the province, who, in a tragic twist of fate, passed away on Wednesday.

Several people expressed their condolences on social media for the passing of the renowned baseball player "Látigo" Gómez.

Alfredo García Pimentel stated on Facebook that, following the news of the receiver's death, "Sagua la Grande continues to mourn. We have just confirmed the passing of José Gómez Pinto."

Osmany Hernández Ruiz expressed with sorrow: "Yesterday it was Hanny Gómez, today his father, my baseball coach, team director, and, above all, a dear friend. He could not withstand the recent blows life dealt him. I feel an immense pain, and I know that many of his friends, who are also mine, feel the same. It is even harder to be far away and unable to accompany him in this final moment. My condolences to his sisters and to the entire family. Farewell, José Gómez Pinto."

Recently, the prominent Cuban doctor Juan Bautista Mendilahaxon López passed away in Cienfuegos at the age of 74, his family reported.

"A good man has died: our father. Juan Bautista Mendilahaxon López, you continue to live on in our memories. A month away from turning 75," wrote his son Erik Mendilahaxon Pina on Facebook.

Also, a few days ago, the Cuban doctor Jorge González Pérez, a renowned specialist in Forensic Medicine who led the search for the remains of Che Guevara, passed away in Havana at the age of 72.

The Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, announced the news on his social media, without providing details about the cause of death.
