Cuba's Electric Union (UNE) announced that there will be power outages this Saturday due to a generation capacity deficit of 1,485 MW during peak demand hours.

In its daily report published on Facebook, the UNE revealed that on Friday, service was disrupted starting at 4:38 am, with a peak impact of 1469 MW at 6:10 pm, coinciding with peak hours, and exceeding the experts' forecast, which had estimated a deficit of 1420 MW.

The service was restored at 1:36 AM this Saturday but began to fail again less than four hours later, at 5:17 AM.

Additionally, at peak demand, there were 39 MW affected due to electrical network breakdowns caused by Hurricane Rafael in the province of Artemisa. This figure remains unchanged at the time of this writing.

This Saturday at 7:00 AM, there was a deficit of 548 MW, and during peak hours, it is estimated that the figure will reach 950 MW.

Five units from three thermoelectric plants are out of service due to breakdowns, and another four blocks are undergoing maintenance.

On the other hand, 44 distributed generation plants, along with the sliding platform in Santiago de Cuba and four engines on the Melones platform, are out of operation due to a lack of fuel, affecting a total of 383 MW.

The limitations in thermal generation are 270 MW.
