Cuban informal market: What are the current prices for the dollar, euro, and MLC?

Behavior of currencies in the informal Cuban market until noon on Wednesday, November 27.

No changes. This is how the prices of the three reference currencies in the Cuban informal market appeared on the morning of November 27, according to the daily report from the independent media outlet elToque.

Dollars, euros, and MLC maintained their average selling values from the past week until noon this Wednesday.

The dollar remains valued at 328 pesos, a price it reached on November 12th. Two weeks later, the US currency continues to hold steady without increasing its value on the Cuban black market.

Meanwhile, the euro remains valued at 345 since November 4, and the Convertible Currency (MLC) started this Wednesday at 265 CUP once again.

Exchange rate today, 11/27/2024 - 11:50 a.m. in Cuba:

Exchange rate of the USD to CUP, according to elTOQUE: 328 CUP.

Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP, according to elTOQUE: 345 CUP

Exchange rate of MLC to CUP, according to TOQUE: 265 CUP

However, in the median values for buying and selling published by elToque, the dollar has recorded an increase of two pesos for the second consecutive day, both in the selling price (330 CUP) and in the buying price (327 CUP), which could be a sign of an upcoming rise in the selling value of the U.S. currency.

In the case of the euro and the MLC, the median shows no change.

According to a recent report from the Observatory of Currencies and Finance of Cuba (OMFi), the worsening economic crisis in the country has caused a "paralyzing effect" on the buying and selling of foreign currencies in the black market.

"The intensification of the economic crisis in 2024 has had a paralyzing effect on the informal currency market. The decrease in tourist numbers, imports, and the overall decline in economic activity across all sectors have led to a contraction in both the supply and demand for foreign currency," stated Cuban economist Pavel Vidal.

The specialist also predicted that the current stagnation of the informal market will persist in the short term.
