A truck overturned on the Central Highway near Ciego de Ávila, according to a report from the Facebook group Accidents Buses & Trucks.
Fortunately, both the driver and their passenger emerged unscathed, with only property damage reported, according to witnesses as well as friends and colleagues of those involved.
It appears that the vehicle, identified as "the wedge of the Marreritos," was transporting a refrigerated container that toppled over onto the road.
The incident occurred around 9:00 PM on Tuesday, and details about the possible causes of the event have not been released.
"The central highway is in disrepair, eight main roads are unusable, and the Pinar highway is also not functioning. In summary: poor roads and excessive speed," commented one observer on the possible cause, emphasizing the bad condition of most major roads in the country.
The accident caused extensive congestion on the Central Highway.
"I stood there for more than an hour, and the traffic jam was no joke. The driver and the assistant were completely unharmed, although it was quite sad to see the damage to the truck," noted a witness.
Another commentator expressed concern about the lack of support and infrastructure for those working in transportation.
"There are no places where drivers can rest, and on top of that, the lines to refuel are endless. No one appreciates that effort," he wrote.
"Iron hurts, but it can be fixed. Losing your life, however, is truly bad. Everything else comes and goes," declared another internet user, echoing a view supported by several commenters.
This is at least the second accident involving a heavy vehicle in recent days.
On Sunday, a modern trailer, allegedly rented by the Cuban brewery Tínima, also ended up overturned on a road in Camagüey. In this incident, it seems that only material damage was caused.
