After several months of announcements and anticipation, the first flight of the airline Avianca has finally arrived in Havana, reopening the direct route between Bogotá and the Cuban capital.

The news was shared on the Facebook profile of the Ministry of Tourism of the Island, highlighting that "this restart marks a new phase of connectivity and opportunities between both countries, facilitating cultural, tourism, and commercial exchange.”

In images shared by the "José Martí" International Airport of Havana, you can see how the plane that arrived from the Colombian capital was welcomed with the traditional water arch, which greets the aircraft and wishes it good luck on its future journeys.

"This new route will enhance the connection between both cities and will be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft, ensuring comfort for all passengers," stated the profile of the Cuban airport facility on Facebook.

According to the itinerary, flight AV54 from Bogotá to Havana will depart at 12:35 and arrive at 16:00; while flight AV55 from Havana to Bogotá will leave at 17:10 and arrive in the Colombian capital at 20:25.

Avianca announced in May its intention to resume flights to Havana starting July 2, with six weekly frequencies, using Airbus A320 aircraft that have a capacity for 180 passengers and offering "more than 2,100 seats per week."

But in June, the airline suspended the resumption of flights that were scheduled to begin on July 2, and advised customers who had already purchased tickets to request a refund.

The decision caused chaos on the island, leaving dozens of families who had sold their possessions to leave the country stranded after the cancellation.
