The divorce between Daddy Yankee and Mireddys González is set to be the most expensive in the world of reggaeton due to the artist's substantial fortune, but along the way, the couple will have to part with several thousand dollars.
The lawyers for both sides are said to have charged an outrageous sum for the first court hearing after the singer sued his still-wife for irregular transfers.
In an interview with two Puerto Rican attorneys, Yo Soy Molusco inquired about the potential fees of the lawyers representing the couple, and both agreed that they would exceed 100,000 dollars each.
"They must have asked each of them for a deposit of over 200 thousand dollars, easily. We need to consider two things here. Sometimes, we, who specialize in family law, when such cases arise, we first inquire what you want from me for the contract—whether you want me to handle the divorce, the asset division, etc. Then I can offer you a price for the divorce alone, but if you want me to negotiate the asset division, I will charge you this extra," explained one of the lawyers.
"The reality is that in cases of community property liquidation, lawyers charge a percentage," he added, implying that in this situation, involving about 300 million dollars related to the singer's fortune, the earnings for the lawyers are significantly higher.
In the first hearing of the lawsuit, Daddy Yankee and Mireddys González reached an agreement whereby the singer will resume the presidency of El Cartel Records and Los Cangris on December 26.
Upon leaving the courthouse, the reggaeton artist expressed to the press that he was very pleased with the outcome of the legal proceedings, and in a show of chivalry, he requested respect for his still-legal wife and the mother of his children.
