Cubans on missions abroad will have the right to import a low-end vehicle

Cubans on missions can import affordable cars from abroad.

The Minister of Transport, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, announced on Monday that Cubans who are on missions abroad will have the right to import low-end vehicles, whether they are combustion, hybrid, or electric.

This measure is part of a series of changes aimed at improving mobility in the country and modernizing the transportation sector. However, the Minister cautioned that it is not a "magic solution" to the historical problems of the system, according to his statements on the government program Mesa Redonda.

Rodríguez Dávila detailed that, under the newly approved regulations recently published in the Official Gazette, cooperators, diplomats, entrepreneurs, and Cuban collaborators will have the opportunity to import economical vehicles, with a special focus on low-cost models.

Importation will be possible from the countries where they operate, and the entity Transimport will be responsible for coordinating the shipping of these vehicles to the island.

"These are actions aimed at gradually resolving transportation issues, but we should not expect that the implementation of this policy will immediately solve all the shortcomings that have accumulated over the years," highlighted the head of MITRANS.

In addition to the Cuban mission workers, the modifications also include authorization for "all" individual Cuban citizens to import motorcycles, and it extends the possibility of importing mopeds and hybrid or combustion bicycles.

The Minister emphasized that the reforms are part of a broader effort by the Government to improve citizen mobility, promote the transition to more sustainable energy sources, and generate the necessary resources to strengthen public transportation and the country's infrastructure in extreme crisis.

The measure was previously announced by the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, during the third Ordinary Session of the Tenth Legislature of Parliament.

Cuba is experiencing the worst crisis in the last 65 years, and the regime is trying to downplay public discontent with last-minute measures.
