A train conductor prevents a fatal accident by stopping the train in front of a woman in Havana

The woman sat on the train tracks with the intention of taking her own life.

A tragic event nearly occurred on Thursday in Havana when a woman attempted to take her own life by stepping onto the train tracks.

According to a report on Facebook by activist Irma Broek, the train driver managed to stop in time before hitting the young woman, thus preventing a fatal outcome.

In the shared video, a woman is seen sitting on the tracks while a man, apparently the train conductor, tries to convince her to get up, but she refuses.

"I don’t want to, I don’t want to," she insisted, to which he replied, "I have to get through."

In the background, a woman can be heard suggesting that they each take her by an arm to help her get out of there.

According to the communicator Niover Licea (Nio reporting a crime), the incident occurred on the Luyanó railway line.

The incident sparked numerous comments of compassion and solidarity towards the woman.

"Miseries, a lack of freedom, and above all, a lack of hope drive people to make those decisions. The dictatorship, as is customary, does not publish the suicide rate in Cuba, but it is undoubtedly very high," stated a retiree.

"The lack of medications to manage depression," asserted a teacher.

"Put in at least a national currency note to help her! We all add a kilo here and a kilo there, and that way we can lighten her load! Today for her, and perhaps one day for you or for me," suggested a choreographer and dance teacher.
