The dollar has solidified its price increase in the informal market over the last few hours, rising from 330 to 335 CUP, five pesos more than the previous day.
In the case of the euro, at 9:00 a.m. (local time) the European currency is trading at an average of 340 CUP, the same as yesterday.
Also, the freely convertible currency (MLC) remains at 245 CUP.
After a period of price decline for currencies that began in December—particularly following the announcement of a floating official exchange rate in 2025—dollars and euros have risen since the beginning of this year.
Evolution of the exchange rate
As one of the possible causes, the recent opening of a new supermarket in Havana, exclusively for payments in foreign currencies like dollars and euros, is highlighted, an event that marks another step in the dollarization process announced by the regime.
This phenomenon has intensified the demand for foreign currency, as an increasing number of commodities are only available in stores that operate in foreign currency and do not accept MLC, according to a growing number of Cubans reporting on social media.
