The crew of a flight returning to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from the Dominican Republic experienced a perplexing episode while flying over the Bahamas on the night of December 23rd, when they witnessed a strange object in the sky for which they still cannot find an explanation.
Aboard an empty plane from the private airline Surjet, the crew spotted a spherical and bright object moving at high speed, defying conventional explanations.
Cassandra Martin, a flight attendant for Surjet who was a direct witness to the event, reported in a statement to Telemundo 51 that the object appeared at an altitude of approximately 43,000 feet, much higher than where drones typically operate.
It says that the crew received a message from Miami air traffic control shortly before the sighting, inquiring about the phenomenon.
“Suddenly, I heard the air traffic control say, ‘We have a strange object, can you identify it, please?’ I looked to the left and the pilot saw three objects; I only saw one. So, I grabbed my phone and held it up to the window to try to record,” he explained.
He says the object remained visible for about 45 minutes.
According to the flight attendant, it appeared to be surrounded by an electric field and had the ability to change color and zigzag in the air.
"It started as white and then turned green, it had something like an electric energy around it.", specified the crew member of the private airline, who described the sighting as something completely unusual.
“I don’t know what it was. I zoomed in as much as my phone allowed. [...] The object stayed with us for a while and then disappeared. We were quite high, and that object was even higher than we were,” he reiterated.
Expert Opinion
The recorded material by Martin caught the attention of Bryan Bender, former Pentagon correspondent and member of Americans for Safe Aerospace, an organization dedicated to studying anomalous phenomena in aviation.
Bender noted that the sighting has parallels with other cases reported by military pilots.
"The video is compelling. This testimony closely resembles other cases of pilots who describe orbs or, in some instances, 'Tic Tacs' flying at very high altitudes and maneuvering in ways that challenge our understanding of physics," he noted.
Bender recalled that the Pentagon has an office dedicated to investigating these sightings, considered a priority issue for both national security and civil aviation.
As of the closure of this report, there are no other confirmed details about the strange incident.
