The Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) announced that next Monday, January 20, at 9:00 a.m., a posthumous tribute ceremony will be held at the Plaza de la Revolución in Holguín, in honor of the 13 victims of the recent explosions that occurred in a military warehouse in Holguín.

The tragic incident, which occurred on January 7, shocked the local population and caused deep grief throughout the country. According to official reports, the disaster was caused by a fire that triggered a series of explosions in a facility where "aged" war material was stored.

The victims, which include four officers and nine soldiers, were mostly young recruits from the Mandatory Military Service fulfilling missions related to the security of the warehouse.

The confirmation of their deaths, after days of uncertainty, left an irreparable void in their families and a sense of helplessness in the community. “They were young people full of life, committed to their work and their loved ones. The news left us devastated,” commented a neighbor from Rafael Freyre.

Reports of opacity surrounding the incident

In Light of the Silence from MINFAR and the Official Press, various voices denounced the opacity with which the authorities handled information related to this tragic event.

Activists and citizens questioned why more details were not disclosed about the conditions of the warehouse and the possible negligence that may have contributed to the fire.

“Everything has been handled with complete secrecy. Families deserve to know exactly what happened and if this could have been avoided,” stated a resident of Holguín who preferred to remain anonymous.

This feeling of distrust has also been reflected on social media, where many have called for greater transparency from MINFAR and the government.

Tribute in Absence: The bodies have not been recovered

The ceremony on Monday, January 20, will be a solemn act, according to Cubadebate. However, the event will be marked by a painful absence: the bodies of the 13 fighters have not been recovered due to the magnitude of the disaster.

According to the authorities, the explosions and the subsequent fire made it impossible to recover identifiable remains, a situation that has intensified the pain of the families and the community.

For many, this tribute in absence reveals the hypocrisy of authorities for whom the lives of nine young recruits mean nothing.

The presence of high-ranking military officials, government authorities, and the families of the victims is expected. The event will include floral tributes, honor guards, and the reading of messages of recognition by the authorities.

"It is very difficult to accept this loss without a body to say goodbye to. It is a pain that never goes away," confessed a relative of one of the victims.
