A Chinese migrant who was allegedly trying to reach the shores of the United States by paddling on two stacked paddleboards was intercepted by the Coast Guard.

A brief post by the Coast Guard on X indicated this Tuesday that the Cutter Seahorse intercepted the Chinese migrant aboard a paddle board "when he was about 25 miles from Freeport, Bahamas."

The migrant was returned to the Bahamas.

A video -without audio- shared by the USCG showed the migrant seemingly chatting with the officers while rowing.

In the shared images, it can be seen that the migrant was even carrying a black suitcase, type trolley, strapped to the back of his contraption.

The idea of "balseros chinos" is not so far-fetched; at the end of January, three Cubans were arrested for being involved in the transport of more than twenty Asian citizens who arrived on the shores of Florida by sea.

Lucas Sedeno Rodríguez (52 years old), José Luis Villares (55), and Keiner Cicilia Rodríguez (39) are accused of human trafficking after it was discovered that they were transporting more than two dozen undocumented immigrants, mostly Chinese, who arrived by boat on the shores of Florida and were found in Coral Gables, according to authorities.

What does seem somewhat unusual is the vessel chosen for the adventure and also, if one wishes, the context, considering the increasing raids and mass deportations against illegal immigration that the newly inaugurated Trump Administration is carrying out.
