The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, announced that he had a very "significant" conversation with his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, to outline the next steps to end the war.

Zeelenski thanked Trump for his interest in what they can achieve together and revealed that he shared details of a conversation he had shortly before with Vladimir Putin.

"No one desires peace more than Ukraine. Together with the United States, we are outlining the next steps to stop Russian aggression and ensure a lasting and reliable peace," he said on his X account.

"As President Trump said, let's do it. We agreed to maintain more contact and plan upcoming meetings," he added.

The Ukrainian leader expressed that he spoke "at length" with Trump about the opportunities for achieving peace.

"We examined our willingness to work together at the team level and Ukraine's technological capabilities, including drones and other advanced industries," he detailed.

"We also talked about my conversation with [Treasury Secretary] Scott Bessent and the preparation of a new document on security, economic cooperation, and partnership in resource matters," he added.

This Wednesday, Trump announced that he reached an agreement with Putin to start "negotiations immediately" with the aim of ending the war in Ukraine.

According to the explanation, both expressed their desire to "stop the millions of deaths occurring in the war between Russia and Ukraine," and decided that their diplomatic teams would begin negotiations immediately.

During the phone conversation, Putin surprised everyone with an invitation to Trump to meet in Moscow.

"Putin and Trump also agreed to maintain personal contacts, including organizing a face-to-face meeting," reported Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
