Cuban activist Omara Ruiz Urquiola reported this Saturday that the regime on the island confiscated several animals from her family farm in Viñales, Pinar del Río.

According to a statement posted on their Facebook page, officials from the Municipal Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAGRI) in Viñales arrived at the property during a heavy downpour and took a female donkey and "Rita," a cow that had been born on the farm and was pregnant.

The officials told Isabel, the mother of the Ruiz Urquiola brothers, Omara and Ariel, that the animals would be transferred to a state farm for "their care."

However, Omara Isabel reported that these state farms, historically witnesses to the failures of the regime's agricultural policies, are nothing more than a reflection of the crisis that affects millions of Cubans, many of whom are forced to emigrate or resort to desperate methods to survive.

In her message, the opposition figure expressed her outrage over this theft, taking advantage of the fact that her 78-year-old mother was alone on the farm.

He said it is another act of violence against his family, especially toward his mother, who was an adult literacy teacher and has succeeded in reviving land neglected by the indifference of the Castro government.

Moreover, he highlighted the mistreatment of animals, which pose no threat and, according to his account, do no harm to anyone.

"Your hatred for our family, for every decent Cuban who, by merely existing, reminds you of what you represent, causes you to take out your rage on my mother and the little animals," said Omara in her statement.

"We are alive, that is and will be OUR FARM, those animals are OURS," he emphasized.

The family is known for its opposition to the Cuban regime and has been subjected to constant reprisals by the authorities.

Other Cuban activists like Yamilka Laffita, known on social media as Lara Crofs, condemned the incident and the abuse against the mother of the Ruiz Urquiola brothers.

The woman, nearly 80 years old, keeps the animals in perfect health and has managed to maintain the farm after her children were forced to go into exile and the regime does not allow them to return to the island, she noted.

Isabel assured that she will defend her animals, said Lara Crofs, and held the regime responsible for the safety of the elderly woman.
