The incident in which Yodelmis was injured occurred on October 21 at around 2:00 a.m. in Joa, a village located 15 km away with just over a thousand inhabitants, when a mango tree fell on the family home, which was left in ruins.

The child's mother, Kirenia Matos Laborí, reported that a wall collapsed on the six-year-old boy, leaving him unconscious. In the midst of the blackout, she tried to save him, along with her husband, who fractured his leg.

After receiving first aid at the hospital in Baracoa, he was airlifted to Hospital La Colonia in Santiago de Cuba, where he underwent surgery. The young child had a skull fracture and was in critical condition, with life-threatening risks.

He gradually improved after undergoing surgery until being discharged on November 23.
