The White House responded on Thursday to the questions and concerns regarding why President Donald Trump has bruises on his hands.
Last year, Trump was seen with bruises or redness on his right hand at least twice, in August and November.
On Monday, a large bruise on the back of the hand was clearly visible during the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Washington.
On social media, users shared photos and commented that it could be a sign of some health issue. At 78 years old, Trump is the oldest U.S. president to assume office.
However, the White House responded, stating that the reason is simply that Trump spends a lot of time shaking hands with others as a customary greeting.
"President Trump is a man of the people. His commitment is unwavering, and he shows it every day," stated Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary.
"He has bruises on his hand because he works constantly and shakes hands all day, every day," he added afterward.
The Republican leader himself said the bruises on his right hand were "from shaking hands with thousands of people," in a statement to the magazine Time in December 2024, when he was named Person of the Year.
In a December interview with Meet the Press of NBC News, Trump stated that his medical reports were "very good, very solid" and that he had no issue making them public.
"I would do it, and I believe everyone should do it," he stated.
