The announcer Frank Abel recounted an emotional gesture from Paulito FG, who gifted him his first suit after a performance at Cubadisco, highlighting the musician's generosity and his impact on Cuban music.

Many artists, following the death of Paulito FG, have shared anecdotes they cherish with the singer; Cuban broadcaster Frank Abel remembered the kind gesture he had with him several years ago in Cuba.

In a program titled "Destino Tolk" dedicated to Paulito FG, Frank Abel shared: “I have fond memories of Paulo. Once, I was presenting Cubadisco, which is the music fair in Cuba, a national event that showcases Cuban discography. This event includes an opening gala and an awards ceremony; I was the host for seven years. One day, I was at the Karl Marx, and the outfit I wore did not look good on camera; it created an odd effect. It was a vest, and I appeared to have a big belly.”

Fran Abel recalled that Paulito FG called him at the theater exit and said, “Hey Frank, I didn’t like how you looked”.

The announcer replied that he had nothing else to wear and clarified that in Cuba, you don't get dressed to appear on camera; you wear what you have.

With eternal gratitude, he recalled that the day after, Paulito FG showed up on the radio where he was working, wearing a suit: “It was my first suit, I had never owned a suit before, a full formal suit, sandy color, he gifted it to me.”

“No had to do that, I wasn't friends with Paulo, I might have seemed pleasant to him but I was just a broadcaster, we didn't have a relationship (...) According to what he told me, he was upset that people criticized me, he got angry and said, ‘this one is going to make a big splash at the closing’.”

During the program, Frank Abel took it upon himself to share with the Dominican hosts the artistic journey of Paulito FG, his popularity among the island's audience and the mark he left on music, particularly in the genres of salsa and Cuban timba.

The Cuban musician passed away on March 1 in a tragic car accident on the Malecón in Havana.
