Crude oil and fuel shipments from Venezuela to Cuba saw a significant increase in February following Donald Trump's measures, according to vessel monitoring data from the Reuters agency.

Amid a severe energy crisis, Cuba received about 42,000 barrels per day of crude oil and fuel from the South American nation, solidifying the energy support from its political ally.

In October, Venezuela exported 28,000 barrels per day (bpd) to the island and increased its exports in November, reaching 38,000 bpd; however, the figure for February was much higher.

In general, Venezuela increased its shipments to several countries in the second month of the year to the highest levels since November, amid uncertainty regarding the decision of the United States to end a key license that allowed the oil company Chevron to operate and export crude oil from the South American nation.

Since Chevron obtained the license at the end of 2022, the production and export of Venezuelan oil had increased, providing a crucial source of income for Nicolás Maduro's regime.

In January, more than 30% of Venezuela's total exports were destined for the United States; however, Trump claimed he did not need Venezuelan oil and gave Chevron a 30-day period to conclude operations in that country.

In total, the state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) and its partners exported an average of 934,465 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil and fuels in February.

China remained the main destination with approximately 503,000 bpd, followed by the United States with 239,000 bpd, Europe with 69,200 bpd, and India with 68,000 bpd.

Additionally, Venezuela exported 315,000 metric tons of petroleum and petrochemical byproducts, including methanol and urea, a decrease from the 360,000 tons sent in January.
