The informal currency market in Cuba registered a slight change in the exchange rate of the freely convertible currency (MLC) in the last 24 hours.
This Sunday, March 9, 2025, the MLC is priced at 280 Cuban pesos (CUP), which represents a decrease of 5 CUP compared to the previous day, when it was at 285 CUP.
Exchange rate in Cuba Sunday, March 9, 2025 - 08:00
- Exchange rate of the dollar (USD) to Cuban pesos CUP: 345 CUP
- Exchange rate of the euro (EUR) to Cuban pesos CUP: 345 CUP
- Exchange rate from (MLC) to Cuban pesos CUP: 280 CUP
On the other hand, the United States dollar (USD) and the euro (EUR) remain stable, both with an exchange rate of 345 CUP, unchanged from the previous day.
This slight decrease in the MLC exchange rate could be related to factors such as supply and demand in the informal market, as well as recent economic policies that impact the availability and need for foreign currency on the island.
Exchange Rate Evolution
Since the beginning of 2025, the MLC has experienced significant fluctuations. In early January, its price was around 300 CUP, but it soon began a notable decline that saw it reach its lowest point on January 21, when it fell to 240 CUP.
Subsequently, the digital currency gradually recovered, reaching 255 CUP by mid-month, and continued on an upward trend until stabilizing around 290 CUP in February. However, in March, the MLC has begun to lose value again progressively.
This decrease contrasts with the behavior of the dollar and the euro, which have shown greater stability in the context of the so-called "partial dollarization of the economy" undertaken by the Cuban regime.
