Desperation is growing among the family and friends of Doraiky Águila Vázquez, a 48-year-old woman who has been missing since the early hours of last Saturday March 15, when all of Cuba was experiencing a general blackout.
A week after her disappearance, the case has mobilized neighbors, activists, and social media users, who have rallied to search for her in the absence of an official cash system to report these cases.
In a message posted on Friday on , Gretel Ferrer, Doraiky's sister-in-law, made a new appeal for solidarity:
"It will soon be 7 nights since her disappearance; we are all very distressed and experiencing an indescribable pain that takes away our breath and keeps us in a deep depression," he recounted.
"I ask for help from all who know me and live in Havana, to take a moment and join the search, whether from the car on their way to work or while walking down the street to make a purchase," he pleaded.
The missing person is experiencing transient memory loss, which has raised concerns for her physical and mental well-being.
According to her mother, Maura Vázquez, a retired nurse with 43 years of experience, Doraiky is not an aggressive person, but she has recently shown episodes of disorientation. She left her home in Lawton, in the municipality of Diez de Octubre, without any identification or phone, dressed in a yellow dress with red or pink flowers and black sandals with red.
Among the distinctive features, the family highlights her gray hair, a height of 1.68 meters, a weight of 65 kg, caramel-colored eyes, and a visible mark on her right ankle.
