A Cuban residing in the United States and holding American citizenship reported through a TikTok video the treatment he received at Miami International Airport after returning from a trip to Cancún, Mexico, with his family.
The man, identified on the social network as @the_nextlevel_electric, explained that, despite being a U.S. citizen for 30 years, he was detained by immigration authorities and taken to the notorious "cuartico," where he underwent an extensive inspection.
“I just returned from Mexico, Cancun, and I am a citizen, my daughter is a citizen, my wife is a resident. They sent me to a small room, I was subjected to an inspection like I have never experienced in my life, and I was made to fill out questionnaires,” he said, visibly upset.
During the interrogation, they asked him if he had recently traveled to countries like Saudi Arabia, Israel, or Iraq, which heightened his concern about the type of scrutiny he was under.
“The one they almost deported is me. What a scare we had at that Miami airport! I've been a citizen for 30 years, and they don't care about any of that,” he asserted.
The video, which has gone viral on TikTok, has raised concerns among users, particularly within the Cuban community in the U.S., about the tightening of immigration controls and the possibility that these practices may become more frequent.
“Be careful, if you don't need to go out, don't”, warned the Cuban, who advised other travelers to act cautiously when considering trips abroad.
