The president Donald Trump reaffirmed in recent hours the right to "free enterprise" and lashed out against socialism.
Trump shared on Truth Social this Sunday two timely quotes: one from former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill; and another from former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, that delve into the consequences of socialism.
“Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy... The inherent virtue of socialism is the equitable distribution of miseries”, said Churchill.
In the case of Reagan, the former Republican president stated that “Socialism only works in two places: heaven, where they don't need it, and hell, where they already have it.”

The Cuban-American congresswoman, María Elvira Salazar, quickly expressed her support on her social media for the post made by the U.S. president.
“Socialism only brings MISERY, repression, and DEATH. It is a failed ideology that deserves to be in the trash bin of history. That is why I will never rest in defending those who flee from that nightmare around the world,” wrote the Republican lawmaker on X.
Trump's opinion on socialism
Although this time he drew on the words of other world leaders, since his first term the Republican leader has referenced the ills of socialism on more than one occasion.
“Socialism promises prosperity but delivers poverty. Socialism promises unity but delivers hate and division. Socialism promises a better future, but always returns to the darkest chapters of the past. It never fails; it always happens,” he said in February 2019 during a visit to Florida International University (FIU).
“Socialism is a sad and discredited ideology, rooted in a complete ignorance of history and human nature. Therefore, socialism inevitably leads to tyranny. Socialists profess a love for diversity, but they always insist on absolute conformity,” he added.
His words made a significant impact at that moment and went viral again in November 2024, just a few days after being elected for his second presidential term.
