For the first time in several weeks, all three currencies in the Cuban informal market have experienced changes on the same day: today, the prices of dollars and euros are rising, while the freely convertible currency (MLC) is declining.

At dawn this Thursday, the average selling price of the US dollar rises for the second consecutive day and is at 358 CUP, according to the daily report from the independent media elToque.

The figure represents an increase in relation to the value of the dollar from the previous day and approaches the threshold of 360, which the euro has surpassed today.

In the case of the European currency, it rises by five pesos all at once and stands at 365 CUP.

The MLC, for its part, drops to 272 CUP.

Cubans closely monitor the informal exchange rate of the dollar, euro, and MLC because it determines their real purchasing power in an economy characterized by scarcity and inflation.

The volatility of exchange rates in Cuba leads many residents on the island to closely monitor the developments in the informal market, in search of strategies to protect their purchasing power against the devaluation of the national currency.
