The official account of the state channel Canal Caribe on YouTube was hacked and currently redirects to a channel with unrelated content, where cryptocurrency advertisements are promoted through seemingly fraudulent live broadcasts.

The attack was detected in the last few hours when users began to notice that, when searching for the channel on the platform, it no longer exclusively displayed the usual content of the Cuban media, but instead appeared under the name Strategy LIVE, where videos from the official state channel mixed with unrelated materials related to cryptocurrencies, including an alleged conference on Bitcoin featuring businessman Michael Saylor.

This latest content even appears as a live broadcast, which has raised suspicions among internet users. Although the informative videos from Canal Caribe can still be played without issue, the control of the channel seems to have been compromised, with a redirection of identity and possible absorption of the original URL.

This type of hacking often involves stealing the URL of the original channel, which comes to be controlled by the attackers. From there, they can change the channel name, delete legitimate videos, and turn the account into a platform to promote financial scams related to cryptocurrencies.

At the time of writing this note, Canal Caribe has not issued an official statement on its Facebook page or other platforms, and the Cuban authorities have also not publicly condemned the attack on the state broadcaster, in contrast to recent episodes.

Now, the channel is facing the challenge of reclaiming its presence on YouTube and rebuilding the trust of its digital followers, possibly having to start over with a new account. In the meantime, it is recommended to avoid interacting with the compromised channel, report it directly to YouTube, and await an official statement from the state media.

Other recent hacks in official media

This incident occurs a few months after the official account of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the social network X (formerly Twitter) was hacked.

In January 2025, the profile was used to promote content related to cryptocurrencies, and its name and image were altered. On that occasion, the Cuban regime publicly denounced the attack and claimed that they were investigating the events.

Canal Caribe was founded on March 14, 2017, as the only news channel of the Cuban state television system. It operates under the direction of the Informative System of Cuban Television, broadcasts in HD, and provides national and international news coverage with an emphasis on political analysis and events of interest.
