A vehicle lost control and crashed into a house on Bayamo Street, between Reloj and San Agustín, in Santiago de Cuba, on Monday night.
According to independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada in his social media, the incident occurred due to an apparent failure of the car's brakes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, although the vehicle sustained visible damage to its front.
The incident raised concern among the neighbors, especially since children often play at that intersection during the day. "We need to be very careful," warned a resident who witnessed the scene.
Almost simultaneously, an accident with similar characteristics occurred in the capital. In Centro Habana, a white car ended up crashing into the façade of a barbershop on Neptuno Street, number 203, as reported on Facebook by the user identified as Roly M. García.
In this case, the driver was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and fled the scene after the collision. Similar to the situation in Santiago, no casualties were reported, but the material damages were significant, both to the vehicle and to the affected property.
Both incidents highlight the growing concern over the technical condition of many vehicles on Cuban streets, as well as reckless driving.
The combination of lack of maintenance, alcohol consumption, and absence of preventive measures is increasingly prominent in the statistics of traffic accidents in the country.
